obsession name: J. Crew Factory Blue Drawstring Tunic, J. Crew Factory Fresh Kiwi Resin Droplet Necklace, J. Crew Factory Crystal and Neon Stone Bracelet

where to buy: J. Crew Factory Stores and J. Crew Factory online

purchased from: J. Crew Factory Store

why the obsession:

Who’s ready for summer vacation???! I know I am, and have been on vacation to Florida to visit family. As with any vacation, I’m sad to see it end so soon, vacations are never long enough. In any case, this vacation was full of eating, beaching, and of course, some shopping! Since I usually buy most things online these days, it was a change of pace to go outlet shopping. In our recent trip to Ellenton, we stopped in to a J. Crew Factory store and scored some awesome deals, everything in the store was an extra 50% off. One of my favorite purchases was this J. Crew drawstring tunic, along with a necklace and bracelet bauble. White and navy stripes with pops of neon yellow? A classic summer combination…

I’ve been reading that J. Crew factory pieces are not up-to-par with regular J. Crew, but I guess time will tell. In any case, the tunic was really comfortable, and is the perfect beach and post-beach cover-up. The rope detail is really cute and I also love how it adds in shape to the tunic dress. But, my favorite part has to be the price – $36.26 after 50% off. Who doesn’t love a great summer sale?

twin obsession:

This enamel critter elephant charm necklace, also from J. Crew Factory!

obsession name: Sam Edelman Marais Leather Tilda Drawstring Satchel in Creme

where to buy: piperlime.com

purchased from: amazon.com

why the obsession:

Happy Memorial Day to all who celebrate this holiday! Today the first thing we should remember are the men and women who died while serving our country, our prayers and thanks for their great sacrifice. Today also typically marks the “official” start of summer season, and the fact that women are “officially” allowed to wear white fashion articles. I personally love all fashion things white, except that I’m always worried of getting everything dirty. This didn’t stop me, however, from being drawn to Sam Edelman Marais Leather Tilda Drawstring Satchel in Crème. Not only does Sam Edelman make some fabulous shoes, but I am totally loving the contemporary handbag line as well.

I’m obsessed with this bag for many reasons. First, it looks expensive with the cream leather and the gold hardware, and I got mine on sale from $278 to $222.40. Some of the well-known handbag designers include Tory Burch, Coach or Michael Kors, but I love the fact that while Sam Edelman is huge in the shoe industry, BUT not many women (yet) are carrying Sam Edelman bags. So it definitely adds a “unique” factor. Also, I love the drawstring shape for the summer, it’s a great alternative to the more popular summer totes. I also love that it’s not logo-crazy, there is just a subtle tag with “Sam Edelman” on it. I also am obsessing over the unique face of the bag, with the zipper, the studded half-circle and the crisscross detail. I would say the only thing I wish were different is that you could adjust the strap of the bag, it droops a little lower than I would like but that just takes some getting used to. Overall, I love my Sam Edelman summer bag and I can’t wait to take her out everywhere!

tidbit of fashion history:

Sam Edelman Shoes is actually the second business for Sam and Libby Edelman. In 1987, they launched Sam & Libby, which they sold in 1996, described in the same fashion ranks as Calvin Klein. According to Mr. Edelman, “… I thought there must be some new approach to contemporary footwear, without copying the top end and still giving it a designer name, but having it be affordable.” I could not have described Sam Edelman’s shoe line any better – they are always on trend without copying, and they have so many pairs of shoes that I consistently lust over. One of my favorite brands indeed! (aol.com)

Image from tiffany.com

obsession name: Tiffany & Co. The Great Gatsby Collection Savoy Headpiece

where to buy: tiffany.com

why the obsession:

Last weekend was the hubby and I’s 4-year wedding anniversary. As part of our celebration, one of our many dates last weekend was to grab some dinner and watch the new release of The Great Gatsby. There are a great many fashion things to obsess about in the movie, but my favorite fashion piece was this Tiffany & Co. The Great Gatsby Collection Savoy Headpiece, famously worn by Daisy to attend one of many Gatsby’s parties (and where Tom starts growing suspicious of their relationship). If this does not scream 1920’s glamour, I’m not sure what else will…

I’m obsessed with this headpiece for many reasons. First, I have to mention that the headpiece carries a total diamond carat weight of 25.04. Yes, twenty-five point oh-four carats. For normal folk like myself, that is a heck of a lot of diamonds. Oh, and not to mention that they are all round and brilliant, and of course, all conforming to the high Tiffany standards of diamond quality. Second, there are freshwater pearls embedded with the diamonds, adding to the 1920’s luxe factor of the headpiece (not that it needed help in that department). Third, I am obsessed with the feather detachable brooch, that for such an ornate piece, there is a touch of practicality and multi-purpose built into it. Lastly, the Art Deco design of the headpiece is just stunning – it’s classy, vintage and modern all at the same time. While I can dream of receiving this headpiece as an anniversary present (at a cool $200,000), for now I am perfectly happy with my 4 years of happy non-Buchanan marriage and telling all my friends to go watch The Great Gatsby.

as seen on:

Carey Mulligan/Daisy Buchanan herself! (From The Great Gatsby 2013 movie)

obsession name: Sperry Top-Sider Authentic Original Leather Boat Shoe, in Platinum Gold

purchased from: nordstrom.com

why the obsession:

I love April. Not only is it (starting) to be ABSOLUTELY gorgeous outside, but it’s also the month of Friends and Family discounts, and the beginning of spring fashion markdowns. Given that it hasn’t really been “spring” in Denver until a few weeks ago, I love that by the time I actually buy spring fashion (since I can actually start wearing it), everything has already started going on sale! And what woman doesn’t love a great deal. One of my (few) April purchases has been this Sperry Top-Sider Authentic Original Leather Boat Shoe in Platinum Gold. It was originally $89.95, but it was marked down to 33% off to $60.26, plus, over Christmas I had won a $25 gift card to Nordstrom’s in a raffle drawing, so after taxes and free shipping to my house, I only paid $35.26! Pretty sweet for a very trendy metallic summer shoe…

I absolutely love my Sperry’s! They are very comfortable, first of all. Second, I love that they are metallic, somewhere in between gold and silver, which makes it versatile in my opinion (i.e. since it’s sort of in the middle of both colors, I think you can wear it with either or). I also love that it is the “Authentic Original” design, that is my favorite Sperry’s look. Additionally, this is the perfect summer alternative to my normal black flip-flops, and would go amazing with white shorts or boyfriend jeans. Another shopping win for moi!!!!

tidbit of fashion history:

Sperry Top-Siders were designed in 1935 by Paul Sperry, inspired by his cocker spaniel’s ability to maintain traction on a slippery surface (did I mention I love cocker spaniels?) by the grooves on their paws. As a result, he designed the cutting of grooves in the soles of Top-Siders and also gave them a white color to prevent marking on boat decks. Practical, well-designed, fashionable and inspired by cocker spaniels? I’m a big fan!!!

obsession name: Givenchy Pandora Sugar Leather Bag, Medium

where to buy: bergdorfgoodman.com

why the obsession:

I have to be honest, there are some moments when you first look at something, and you go “ooh, that is NOT for me”. What is odd though, for me, is that after a while, the things I am immediately not drawn to, they actually end up being things that I end up lusting after. For example, when I first saw the Celine Luggage Tote, I thought to myself, “I’m not too sure about those wings…” and then one day, I see the bag again, and I think, “That is a gorgeous bag”. The SAME exact thing happened with Givenchy’s Pandora Bag. At first sight, I was thinking that the classic Antigona was more of my style, but upon further examination, I fell in love more with the Givenchy Pandora Bag, with its unique shape and it is really nothing like what is out there right now. Hence, a new bag crush was born…

I’m obsessed with this bag because it’s just so different. Technically, it is shaped like a box (hence its Pandora name), but because it is carried and handled from only one edge of the bag, it actually ends up more like a slouchy bag, halfway between a wide bucket bag and a hobo. It is such a gorgeous shape whether carried using the shoulder strap or by its handle. Of course, it is made in an array of sizes, colors and textures, so that is a big plus as well. I love this smooth lipstick red version, in medium! It is interesting what is happening with bag trends these days, bag designers are all fighting to come up with the next “it” bag style, relying more on recognition of shape and style rather than all over monogrammed logos. Personally, I’m a fan…

twin obsession:

The Givenchy Antigona satchel, of course!

obsession name: Christian Louboutin Décolleté 100 patent-leather pumps

where to buy: net-a-porter.com

why the obsession:

Lately I’ve been thinking about stepping up my work wardrobe. Since I work from home, my everyday work attire is mostly pajama pants, my college t-shirts, and Tweety house slippers. Every once in a while, I travel for work, which then requires me to go to the other extreme of the work wardrobe spectrum, a full suit and black pumps. However, since the latter is uncommon, I didn’t really feel the need to spend the money on a “designer” professional work wardrobe that I will only need to wear every three months or so. But lately, I’ve been thinking that I should, since it is an occasion essentially, and I try to step up my wardrobe in all other occasions, so why not for work? And what better way to dress up my suit than with a pair of classic Christian Louboutin black patent leather pumps? I don’t think there is anything better…

I’m obsessed with the black Christian Louboutin Décolleté 100 patent-leather pumps for many reasons. First, I love the round toe option for work, rather than a full pointed toe. Although I think the full pointed toe (such as the Batignolles 120 patent-leather pumps) is a sexier version, it might be too sexy for my work tastes. Also, I think the round toe option gives it a slightly more casual vibe, so I feel that it will go better with business casual options as well, in addition to my suit options. Additionally, as with all Christian Louboutin shoes, the aesthetic is feminine, powerful and unique. This is a true investment piece, and really one that I can wear for work on those special days that I have to put on a suit, but also anytime I need a sexy pair of classic black pumps!

twin obsession:

These CL Manovra studded patent-leather slingback flats for those days I need a cute pair of work flats!!!! (Maybe one day)

obsession name: Alice + Olivia Clover Macramé Lace Dress

where to buy: mytheresa.com

why the obsession:

I can’t believe how much time has flown by these past few weeks. All waking moments have been spent putting our new house together and everything is finally calming down again and returning to a normal everyday groove. Easter is this weekend!!!! I can’t wait. We had some more snow in Denver this weekend, but everything was melting today and it is projected to be sunny and 63 degrees this Sunday. In honor of the beautiful upcoming spring weather, our new house, I am dreaming of the perfect Easter dress. In a fantasy world, I would be rocking this Alice + Olivia Clover Macramé Lace Dress to service and pretty much all spring gatherings. With its macramé lace, blue-violet-esque pastel color, who needs a basket full of Easter eggs to look festive?

There are many reasons why this dress is Easter perfection. First, I love that it’s a sheath dress, which makes it really appropriate for family gatherings and church service. (P.S. Christmas and Easter always drive me nuts, because I’m always right on time to service, which means I am standing room only). Second, I love the subtle back – it’s a cutout back, not a low back, so it adds a touch of sexiness but still very elegant. Also notice that there is no lining to the cutout back, such a small detail but definitely thought went into designing this dress. Third, that color!!! Not sure if it’s just the picture, but I am loving the blue-violet color, such a gorgeous unique pastel color for spring. Wouldn’t a matching small flower fascinator be simply divine with this dress?

tidbit of fashion history

Macramé lace is made by knotting twine, cords or thick threads in a geometric pattern. Knotting lace in this fashion dates as far back as the 16th century, and was a popular craft in the 60’s to create home decorations. (britannica.com)

twin obsession

It’s been a crazy two weeks trying to move in and out of our apartment and into our new home. So in the meantime, I thought I would share my little piece of closet heaven. I finally had time to put everything into its new home. Sometimes, it’s good to take an inventory of what you already have… and just be thankful :)

obsession #02242013: the ivory transparent heels

obsession name: Valentino Naked Rockstud Slingback, in Ivory/Clear

where to buy: Bergdorf Goodman stores, or bergdorfgoodman.com

why the obsession:

In Denver as of the moment, this winter season’s first snowy blizzard is right outside my window. Everything outside is white, white, and then more white. In any case, I’m looking forward to spring/summer, but with the upcoming change of seasons that does not mean “white” is going away, not for me anyway. White is definitely a favorite color of mine for spring and summer. Even with the snow blizzard outside, seeing white everywhere just gets me more excited that spring is less than a month away. White is such a fresh, clean and crisp color, perfect for those warmer months. In parallel, there also appears to be a clear/transparent fashion trend on the rise, and while I am not a huge fan of most things clear/transparent, it was very hard not to be drawn to these Valentino Naked Rockstud Slingbacks in ivory/clear. I am a huge fan of normal Valentino Rockstud Slingbacks already, and seeing this combo was an unexpected delightful surprise.

This is definitely an “it” sandal. I love the clear heels and straps because on bare skin, that should look like jewels suspended on your feet and heels. The T-Strap and pointed toe lengthens the look of your leg, so it should be very flattering on a lot of women. I also love the kitten heel, I think it nicely balances out the multiple ankle straps. And of course, white complements the silver Rockstud pyramid studs beautifully for a very expensive look. It is a little pricier than standard Valentino Rockstud slingbacks, but if you want to perfect that snow queen look, and the statement summer heels, look no further than this shoe!!!!!

tidbit of fashion history:

T-Strap heels were first popularized in the 1920s, during “revealing” times in fashion history, when flappers started showing off their shoes as part of their outfit and was a turning point in shoe history, finally becoming official women’s accessories. (fashionencyclopedia.com)

twin obsession

I’m obsessed with Valentino Rockstud PVC Thong Sandals in Poudre! Perfect for casual summer days and nights.

obsession #02102013: the first date outfit

why the obsession:

I’ve been on vacation with friends over the past week and a half and it’s been a really nice change from the normal everyday routine. However, this has not stopped me from getting excited for the release of the Prabal Gurung – Target designer collaboration, which happened around midnight today!!!! Yippee!!! As I’ve blogged before, I love designer collaborations since they allow you to own really pretty pieces from high-end designers at an affordable price. My favorite look from Prabal Gurung’s Target collection is this affectionately named “First Date” look. I would have totally worn this ensemble to a first date with my now-husband.

I’m obsessed with this look mainly for its versatility. With the sleeveless-mesh floral top, pleated short skirt, wedge sandals, you can really take this look on most first date scenarios, whether your first date is just dinner and a movie, or a walk on the beach. It’s also very feminine without being overtly sexy. The wedge sandals give it a more casual look, even though the skirt adds a touch of dressy-ness. The lace miniaudiere is also the perfect size to bring the necessary first date essentials. Hopefully this gives you some ideas on what to wear on that elusive first date – there are 92 pieces to Prabal Gurung’s Target collection, which can all be mixed and matched to every relationship event, from the first date to meeting the parents to the engagement party!

twin obsession

I’m obsessed with this floral blazer, tee, and shorts, also from Prabal Gurung’s Target collection!

obsession name: Mulberry Alexa in Valentine’s Red Glossy Goat

where to buy: Mulberry stores, or mulberry.com

why the obsession:

Mulberry’s Alexa bag has got to be one of my favorite bags of all time. For true handbag lovers, it’s definitely a favorite style, but also, even if you’ve never seen this bag before, one can’t help but be drawn to its natural “it” factor. It’s just such an iconic design, with the classic postman lock, braided handle and symmetrical belt buckle strap detailing. My favorite part is that every year, it comes in absolutely stunning colors – a delicious hot pink Watermelon with gold hardware, beautiful silky snake Beige print with rose gold hardware, sexy foggy Grey with gunmetal hardware – you simply can’t go wrong. In fact, most of the bags that I consider “the one that got away” are pretty much all Alexas. With Valentine’s Day coming up, of course Mulberry had to create the sexiest red bag I’ve ever seen. If only I had the money to buy them all…

I’m obsessed with this Mulberry Alexa in Valentine Red Glossy Goat for many reasons. As aforementioned, it’s just such a beautiful shade of true lipstick red. It’s not too brown, not too orange, but it’s red. Just like the only Alexa I own (which is the gorgeous cabbage green version), Mulberry simply just nails it on the bag color. Additionally, I love the leather quality on Alexas, at least on the one that I own. The leather is so soft, so smooshy, and I haven’t really had any leather issues with transferring, fading, etc., even if I haven’t treated it with anything protective. However, what makes this particular Alexa even more unique than all the others are the heart rivets – how cute is that detail?! I can only hope $1,650 + tax + shipping magically falls from the sky when this bag comes available for purchase (I’m guessing around March). Love, love, love it!!!!!

twin obsession:

This mini Alexa in Raspberry pink is also perfect for Valentine’s Day!!!

obsession name: Louis Vuitton Empreinte Speedy Bandoulière 25 in Infini and Louis Vuitton Fleur d’Epi Bag Charm in Chili Red

where to buy: Louis Vuitton stores, or louisvuitton.com

why the obsession:

I was so excited and sad this weekend. Initially excited because it looked like the Denver Broncos were well on their way to the Super Bowl!!!!!! And then sad, when they lost to a field goal (a field goal!!!!) in 2nd overtime (2nd overtime!!!!). I could NOT believe Jacoby Jones caught that game-tying pass from Joe Flacco with approximately 30 seconds left on the clock in the fourth quarter, though. Broncos should have won the game right then and there and have been done with it. In any case, I still heart Peyton Manning for being one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history and I have nothing but respect for the man and the Broncos team. In any case, in my dreams where the Broncos go on to the Super Bowl and I magically obtain tickets to go to the game, I would totally carry this Louis Vuitton Empreinte Speedy Bandoulière 25 in Infini charmed with Fleur d’Epi Bag Charm in Chili Red (or orange), and proudly sport the team colors! What a dream Broncos game day bag.

This combination would definitely be the dream bag/charm combination to attend any Broncos game. Speedy 25 is probably my favorite size out of all the Speedy-s. In my opinion, you don’t see as many Speedy 25s around as much as the classic 30s since it holds less stuff. When you go to a football game anyway, you really don’t want anything big or saggy. The Speedy is also the perfect shape to sit on my lap as I’m watching the game. Functionally, this version of the Speedy is also perfect for football games because of its removable and adjustable strap. You really want your hands free as much as possible at football games, with handing over tickets, taking pictures, going back and forth between the concession stands, hands full of water/soda/beer/snacks. Also, can we say I’m obsessed with this monogram? It’s not the typical in-your-face monogram, but it’s very discrete, classy and it’s one of those rarer Louis Vuitton bags out there. The best part is that it’s available in four other colors, hopefully to match your sports team of choice!

tidbit of fashion history:

The size of Speedy 25 was originally a special order by Audrey Hepburn for Louis Vuitton in 1965. Pictures of Audrey and her LVs below (courtesy of allwomenstalk.com)

obsession name: Abby Ballet Flat, in Mint

where to buy: bananarepublic.com

why the obsession:

These days, while browsing online, I have become obsessed with the color mint. Anytime I see mint anything – mint bags, mint tops, mint jeans, mint shoes, heck, even mint furniture, mint walls (oh boy!), I’m officially hooked. Maybe I’m just getting excited for spring/summer 2013 (always looking forward to the next season in fashion of course), but the color is just so beautiful. It definitely looks like mint is going to a huge hit this spring, given that emerald is Pantone’s 2013 color of the year. I have slightly obsessed about mint in a previous post, but what is so sad to me is that I only own one thing mint, and it’s a sweater. One sweater! It’s definitely time to add to that collection. I think these Banana Republic Abby ballet flats in mint would be nice to add to the collection, no?

I love that these flats are supposed to be made of patent leather (mint patent leather!!!!! yeah!), that will definitely help with the durability, versus cloth or canvas flats. I’m also quite intrigued with the memory foam insole, “designed for all day comfort”. I also love that the elasticity of the flats are even throughout the shoe, instead of bunching up in the back (that design always seems to hurt my feet). The price is a little on the high side for me for a pair of standard ballet flats, but Banana Republic seems to offer several coupons that could help the purchase price!

what I would wear this with:

Something in the palette of blue and white, like a blue and white striped dress, or chambray shirt with white jeans.

twin obsession:

The Rebecca Minkoff Mac Clutch in Mint!

obsession #01012013: the propaganda/resolution tote bag

obsession name: Keep Calm and Get Healthy Tote Bag

where to buy: cafepress.com

why the obsession:

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!!! I, for one, cannot believe it is 2013 already. Time is just flying by. As with any first day of the year, it is time for New Year’s resolutions! I remember as a little girl being forced to write essays about what I would change in the upcoming year, and now here I am writing about what I would change as a hobby. Go figure. In any case, I think it’s pretty clear what my two New Year’s resolutions will be for 2013 with the CafePress tote bag above: Keep Calm and Get Healthy!!!!!!

For 2013, I think a good change for me is to keep calm. Cliché, yes, but I really do need to be better about this. I would like to keep better calm in situations where a bunch of little things and stressors add up. The temptation to be upset is too easy; it takes so much more work to be patient and to just let go. As my best friend reminded me on the phone this morning, life is too short. Focusing more on the positive will help keep me calm, and I need to remember to do this more often. The second part of my resolution, I would like to continue on my path with getting healthier, eating better, sleeping more and working out several times a week. Living in a health-conscious city is definitely helping. When I was little, I used to have these long lists of New Year’s resolutions. Hopefully just having two simple resolutions (and a tote bag) will make it easier to stick to!!!

tidbit of Keep Calm history:

The original Keep Calm and Carry On poster was actually a propaganda poster created by the British government during WWII in the event of a Nazi invasion of Great Britain. While its modern day context is very different than the original intention, it is interesting to think back of its historical context… and to realize that compared to back then, it’s probably a whole heck of a lot easier to keep calm about your current stresses than what they had to keep calm about. Puts everything into perspective, no?

why the obsession:

Merry Christmas Eve to all who celebrate Christmas!!! Christmas has always been a special time for me, spending down time with family, friends, and those you love, perhaps with a nice cup of cocoa with mini marshmallows. Personally, I am a big fan of dressing down and comfortable during the holidays. My go-to Christmas outfit is a big cozy, holiday sweater, with some jeans or leggings. Now, Christmas sweaters have a reputation for being “ugly”, but they don’t have to be!!! Places like ASOS and J. Crew have plenty of cute sweater options to lounge around in. As I was browsing today online for what I would have picked out for myself to wear on this ol’ Christmas Eve, I came across this ASOS Christmas Sweater in Reindeer Fairisle, and it’s perfect. How cabin-ready is this sweater?

I love this sweater because it’s Christmas-inspired, with the reindeer and the snowflake pattern on the front, but it’s not obnoxious. I also love the cream color, most “ugly” holiday sweaters are loud reds and greens, so this one is definitely a far cry from such sweaters. I also love that the reindeers and the snowflake are only on the front, the rest of the sweater has an asterisk-ish spotted design, which makes it very cute and trendy. Now where is my cup of cocoa???? HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL!!!!!!

what I would wear this with:

Vegan leather leggings, with shearling booties!

twin obsession:

How cute are the Coach Danee Wedge Shearling Booties below (also on SALE!) at coach.com:

obsession name: Valentino Couture Bow d’Orsay Pumps, in Red Patent

where to buy: Nordstrom stores, or nordstrom.com

why the obsession:

Holiday parties are in full swing! How many holiday parties are filling up your weekends? This past weekend, hubby and I attended two holiday parties – one for his work and one for our apartment complex. For our apartment complex holiday party, we arrived late enough but early enough to snag a raffle ticket before they started drawing tickets. Much to my delight, I won a $25 Nordstrom Gift Card!!!!! I was so excited… So today I started browsing through their website, the gift card burning in my pocket, when I came across these gorgeous Valentino Couture Bow d’Orsay Pumps. Could there be any more perfect holiday Christmas-sy pair of shoes?

I’m obsessed for many reasons. First, it’s such a perfect shade of sexy Christmas red. Second, the bow reminds me of beautifully wrapped presents, aside from representing the signature Valentino bow. Third, that luscious Italian-made patent red leather (i.e. super high quality patent leather)…‘nuff said. Santa, if you’re listening, I’ve been good this year!!!!!!!!! (I think)

what I would wear this with:

The little black dress, of course! Or also, maybe a dressy black top, jeans, and the red shoes for a more casual holiday party look…

tidbit of fashion history:

D’Orsay shoes are named after Count Alfred d’Orsay, an artist and friend of legendary British poet Lord Byron, where the side of the shoe is cut close to the sole. It was functional to wear such types of shoes at the time to accommodate wider feet (like mine!) (Source: www.stylist.co.uk)

twin obsession:

The Valentino Lace Couture Bow Pumps!!!!! OMG!!!

obsession #12042012: the vintage tea party hat

obsession name: Vintage Tea Party Hat, passed from one generation to the next

received from: family heirloom, given by a friend

why the obsession:

This weekend I flew back to Tampa to fulfill part of my role as maid of honor for one of my best friends’ wedding - to throw a fabulous tea party bridal shower. It was a very lovely shower, if I must say so myself, with heirloom china, lace table overlays, decorative pearls, and of course, vintage hats. One of the ladies invited to the shower inherited two boxes of vintage hats from her grandmother, so as guests walked in they could borrow a fashionable hat for the tea party. I originally had a different Kentucky-Derby-style hat for the party, but decided last minute I was going to put my hair up in a top-knot bun… so the Derby hat wasn’t going to work quite well as I thought. So before the guests got to the tea party, I was lucky enough to have time to dig through the fabulous hat collection and found myself the PERFECT black cocktail hat for the party.

I’m not a hat expert, but initial research makes me think this hat is what they consider to be a “cocktail” hat. The hat doesn’t cover my whole head (hence perfect for my top knot bun), but grazes just the front top part of my head. The hat fits me quite well, it wasn’t itchy, and I was able to wear it the entire shower (and even a little after). I love the fact that it’s vintage, and a true testament to its quality (and care of the previous owner of course). I was wearing a purely black dress, so the black hat and its little flowers on the side complemented my overall outfit really well. I also think I could a veil to the front part of the hat pretty easily, if I wanted to. The best part about this hat? After the shower was over, the lady was kind enough to let me keep the hat! I was so touched, and I promised to take good care of it, as she did. A wonderful ending to a wonderful bridal shower!

twin obsession:

Our shower setup!!!

obsession name: Motel Gabby Iridescent Sequin Dress in Black, at ASOS

purchased from: asos.com

why the obsession:

I hope everyone had a nice long holiday weekend. This is usually one of my most favorite weekends, because in addition to hanging out with family/friends, no work, eating, football, napping, and putting up Christmas decorations, most of the stores are ON SALE!!!! (What else do you want in one weekend?) Even the stores that rarely do sales. My favorite Black Friday sale is the ASOS sale, because everything is take additional 20% off. My goal this particular Black Friday was to pick out my holiday dress. I personally think Black Friday is the best time to get your holiday dress, not only for the deals, but also it’s the last weekend before December kicks in, which is already officially holiday party season. This year, I was looking for something classic and warm, given our recent move to Denver. I was browsing through the ASOS holiday dresses when I came across the Motel Gabby Iridescent Sequin Dress in Black and it was exactly what I wanted!!!

My first criterion in finding my perfect holiday dress was to find something with long sleeves and would look appropriate with tights. There is nothing more uncomfortable than finding the perfect dress but freezing your socks off due to lack of clothing material. Sure, I’m not going to wear the dress by itself outside and obviously layer it with coats, but I wanted as much material as is acceptable for a holiday dress. My second criterion was to find a long-sleeved dress that was dressy enough to wear for New Year’s Eve parties/cocktail attire. There are plenty of long-sleeved dresses, but I wanted something that would stand out in a party. My third criterion was to find something that I could wear over multiple seasons – I’ve bought enough trendy holiday dresses that I’ve ended up only wearing once. Since this is a basic black long-sleeved sequined dress, it’s definitely a classic and can be re-worn in the future. My fourth criterion, and the most important one – was for the dress to be under $100. This Motel Gabby Iridescent Sequin Dress in Black meets all of my criteria and I can’t wait to dress it up at various holiday parties this December!

what I would wear this with:

Definitely a pair of basic black tights, with probably a pair of matte black suede pumps. The sparkly dress is the main focus, so the rest of the outfit should be muted. I would layer it with a leopard faux fur coat on the outside to keep the glam while you have a coat on!

twin obsession:

The same dress, but in green!!! Stunning color…

obsession name: MICHAEL Michael Kors Kempton Large East West Tote, in Black

purchased from: Macy’s, or macys.com

why the obsession:

I love Bethenny Frankel. Ever since I first watched her on The Real Housewives of New York, I always thought she was hilariously sarcastic, smart and witty, all in all my kind of housewife. She has since then branched to become a business mogul, and every now and then a Facebook feed from her catches my eye. She recently posted an article, The Only 3 Bags You Will Ever Need, and of course I had to read it. Funny how the timing worked out, because I am recently obsessing/purchased one of the bag types, “The Simple Tote”. Most women will probably go with a Longchamp Le Pliage Tote (as pictured in the article) when thinking of the concept of “The Simple Tote”, but I absolutely love my Michael Kors equivalent, the Kempton Large East West Tote, in black. This is my favorite, literally take-everywhere bag of the moment.

This bag is definitely one of my most practical bags. The size of the bag is perfect, has plenty of inside compartments, and unlike other totes, zips all the way across, with an extra zipper outside for those must-quickly-get-to items. I love the black version, and against the gold MK hardware, can easily transition from day shopping trip to dinner dates. Obviously, since it’s a nylon bag, it’s durable, and I’ve actually dirtied it a little already from use, but was able to wipe off any dirt/stain with a slightly damp paper towel. Given the Colorado winter, I can take this bag outside without fear. The thin handles also seem pretty sturdy (of course only time will tell how long it lasts), and the bag is very light. My favorite part about the Kempton tote is that it’s not the nylon bag that EVERYONE and their mother has (since I feel like I see the Le Pliage everywhere), and best of all… it kinda has a smile on it with the zipper on front? LOL. Love it!!!!!!! (oh, and since I bought it from Macy’s and they have coupons for CC holders, I was able to get a great deal on it!)

tidbit of fashion history:

Prada’s nylon bag, is of course, one of the most iconic nylon bags in history, introduced in the 1980s and has since become part of its classic handbag offerings. Prada’s Tessuto Gaufre Nylon Tote is a definite dream nylon bag!

twin obsession:

MICHAEL Michael Kors Kempton Nylon Large Tote Bag, in navy!!! Such a classic color also… (Image courtesy of macys.com)

obsession name: The North Face Alycia Boot, in black

where to buy: klmountainshop.com

why the obsession:

Sometimes, there are moments in life when you just have to sacrifice a little fashion for comfort. Like, for example, when you’re sick, and just want to snuggle up in your obnoxious red penguin pajamas (not guilty, I promise) without a care with how you look. However, there are moments in life when you HAVE TO HAVE BOTH (plus throw in a reasonable price). It is during these moments that when you have to have fashion, comfort and price, that you may be required to do extensive research so as to get everything you want. I, for one, have scoured many shopping websites over the past two months for the perfect winter boot. Apparently elusive, I was looking for something that could be dressy/casual, could wear with a lot of things, reasonably priced, and most of all – warmth, waterproof-ness, insulation and comfort for my feet for the upcoming snow season. I needed something that I could take with me to the mountains for future snowboarding trips, but also cute enough to walk around in the city for a winter dinner date. It took a little while to find something that was both cute and functional, and within my $100 price range, but I finally found it - the North Face Alycia Boot, on sale for $89, in black on klmountainshop.com.

It was a lot harder to find a good winter boot than I originally thought. Many waterproof, insulated winter boots are bulky and furry. What if it snowed in the city, and I want to have a night out with hubby and some friends, and don’t necessarily want to look like I’m about to go to Antartica, but would like to keep my feet warm? So what I love about this boot, is it looks like a normal, everyday city boot, but packs in all the punch that any waterproof, furry, insulated boot might have to keep my feetsies dry. I also like the “rugged” look that the laces add, which is appropriate for snow lodges and mountain visits, but subtle enough to blend in for walking around my Denver neighborhood. I love the cable knit collar detail at the top, very trendy like the boot socks/liners that is popular these days. It’s also made from partially recycled materials (which is always good), and it’s a flat boot, so no need to fear falling on myself when its cold and slippery out. And the price? Who doesn’t love saving money on something that is practical and fashionable?

twin obsession:

The same pair, in gray!!!! (from piperlime.com)
