obsession name: Abby Ballet Flat, in Mint

where to buy: bananarepublic.com

why the obsession:

These days, while browsing online, I have become obsessed with the color mint. Anytime I see mint anything – mint bags, mint tops, mint jeans, mint shoes, heck, even mint furniture, mint walls (oh boy!), I’m officially hooked. Maybe I’m just getting excited for spring/summer 2013 (always looking forward to the next season in fashion of course), but the color is just so beautiful. It definitely looks like mint is going to a huge hit this spring, given that emerald is Pantone’s 2013 color of the year. I have slightly obsessed about mint in a previous post, but what is so sad to me is that I only own one thing mint, and it’s a sweater. One sweater! It’s definitely time to add to that collection. I think these Banana Republic Abby ballet flats in mint would be nice to add to the collection, no?

obsession name: Prada Aquamarine Ostrich Pyramid Tote

where to buy: Neiman Marcus stores, or neimanmarcus.com

why the obsession:

So it just occurred to me that almost a month after having this blog, I have not featured or reviewed an actual purse (one of my earlier posts was about a clutch, but definitely not the same thing). Such a shame!!! I am more of a purse-handbag-type woman than I am most anything else (even shoes, jewelry, etc. if you can believe it) and apparently I have not represented the real me in this blog. Well, it’s about time to change that!!! Here, wonderful readers, I bring something beautiful to covet – the Prada Aquamarine Ostrich Pyramid Tote. I’m obsessed for many reasons. My top reason to be obsessed is the beautiful aquamarine color (although – I may have to disagree with the classification of this as “aquamarine” color – it definitely looks more mint green to me). In any case, aquamarine or not, this color is very spring, but it’s very classic spring. As in, every April of ANY year, you can whip this piece of art from your closet and not have it be out of the style. Equally important reason to be obsessed – is the absolutely luxurious and rare ostrich leather (ahem, Prada does not charge $6,000+ for this bag for nothing). If there’s one important handbag lesson that I’ve learned that should be passed on to more women everywhere, is to pay more attention to the bag material. I find that as I collect more fashion “art” in my closet, you simply cannot beat a bag that you will have for a lifetime versus a few months/years. So many women today get carried away with “who-designed-what”, paying hundreds of dollars for canvas or cloth bags.  Agreed, there may be a 1% exception to this rule, but as one builds a handbag collection, you have to really start understanding why you are shelling out more money for this bag (and also, friends will relentlessly always ask you this question, and even if you don’t have to answer, you should at least know for yourself). And last, but not least, I’m currently and very major-ly (if there is such a word) obsessing over bags with structure - bags that hold up and maintain their shape when you set them down. There’s just something so refined and ladylike with having a structured bag. I get many moments in life where I feel awkward or sloppy, and it certainly is nice to feel more put-together throughout the day, courtesy of your purse.
