obsession name: Blank Denim Vegan Faux Leather Leggings in Black
purchased from: shopbop.com
why the obsession:
I remember the first time I was introduced to the term “pleather”. It was junior year in high school, I was a wee young teenager, and my parents had just bought me what they claimed to be a “leather” jacket. I didn’t really know any better at the time, I thought it was cute, and I wore it to school the next day. A friend of mine, upon seeing it, asked me if it was real leather, to which I shrugged, and upon close inspection we find that it is not real leather. In high school, we all tend to be a little mean, so my friend proceeded to shame me in front of our other friends for wearing “pleather”. I remember being quite embarrassed, not knowing that it was “fashion faux pas” (or was at least claimed at the time) to not wear real leather. And here we are, many years later, with veganism on the rise, and high-profile cruelty-free designers like Stella McCartney making “vegan” leather acceptable AND trendy in the fashion industry (also frankly for her, quite profitable). For Fall 2012, leather and leather-look is a HUGE trend, and what better way to celebrate the trend than with these black Blank Denim Vegan Faux Leather Leggings that I found on shopbop and finally lay peace the inner teenager inside me that was shamed so many years ago?

obsession name: Confetti Necklace, by Erickson Beamon
where to buy: shopbop.com
why the obsession:
So part of the reason why I started this blog is that it allows me to fantasize about the most beautiful, unique fashion pieces around, regardless of price point. I may not always purchase what I feature due to my budget limitations, but hey – a girl can dream right? (yes, in her blog!!!!) And in my dreams, I have purchased this latest fashion find on shopbop – the Erickson Beamon Confetti Necklace. HOW GORGEOUS! First off, I don’t have zoom capabilities on the image above, but there is absolutely great attention to detail to this necklace, and that is what I am completely amazed by. I love the mix of crystals and color – if you look close, it is a carefully arranged mess of matte and clear crystals in every color and shape possible (how stunning is that middle piece, it looks like it’s been partly slashed with an array of crystals). And, the asymmetric design on the necklace adds that edge that gives this necklace its cool factor. One thing I absolutely adore about Erickson Beamon designs is that necklace chains are not just an afterthought (which I think for some designers, they just design a cool pendant and just throw it on a chain). On this particular piece, gold highlights amongst the silver chains are such a unique detail. AND what is definitely an afterthought on most jewelry – on this necklace, the confetti pattern extends all the way to the clasps. Thinking about it, not only is the front of the necklace so detailed and so beautiful, but with such cute clasps, you’re also wearing the design on the back. With a name like “confetti necklace” it certainly lives up to its name, with all thoughts of party fun!!!!

obsession name: Alice + Olivia Victoria Ivory Peplum Dress
where to buy: shopbop
why the obsession:
Silhouette, silhouette, silhouette! I love that it instantly zeroes in on the waist, celebrating our female form, emphasizing curves or giving curves if you don’t have any (although some women might say it emphasizes the curves a little too much). I love this dress in its ivory color, because it’s modern, you can pile on trendy accessories, and most importantly, the color is something that I can wear to work but is not your standard office black. I’m also obsessed with it because the aesthetics is simple, feminine and tasteful, and it really is a fun trend to try.
